A Magnificent and Highly Decorative Chinese Inlaid Lacquer Chair Circa 1890.

Description

This amazing chair is extensively inlaid with mother of pearl and abalone shell against a gold flecked chinese polished lacquer. The chair is very solid and sound but the finish and inlay has 'had a life' as can be seen from my pictures. It is not perfect but is so 'busy' with design and artistic hand work that it carries itself well and overides any wear and tear. A beautiful decorative piece which, although I am not an authority, I give an age around 1890.

I think the back panel alone would make a very acceptable wall mounted display but kept as a complete piece may be preferable.

This chair is throne like in proportions but surprisingly comfortable.
