Elmgarden has dated this piece to the Georgian era.
These charming chests are known as 5 plank because it takes 5 planks to make one, front, back, top and bottom and the last plank is cut in half to form the sides which need to be half the size of the length of the coffer

The Front of the Coffer has a large blacksmith made escutcheon plate and there is the remains of a hasp on the top, it has staple hinges and a lidded candle box inside
This is a very old piece, it has a repair to one foot, ( this is an old repair) it has a good colour and is in satisfactory condition for its years

The coffer is 40” long, 16” deep and 19” high
