Description

Large late 19th.c. maritime diorama c.1880. Very nearly three feet long, depicting a four masted tall ship under a splendid full spread of 36 wooden sails. With lifeboat, anchor and guardrails and flying the red ensign together with various signal flags. Distinctive green and yellow paintwork to the hull and red portholes. On a choppy moulded plaster sea, accompanied by a smaller gaff rig sloop (with the number 1896 on the sail) and a twin funnel steamer. Backboards and sides painted with blue sky and clouds, with a lighthouse in the rear right hand corner. Presented behind glass in a wooden case with moulded frame. Superb condition, the case has been opened and the inside of the glass cleaned in our workshops.
