Elmgarden has dated this piece to the 17th Century.
It has a key, working lock and a brass escutcheon, these are not original but they have been in the coffer for many years and they work

The heavy top of the coffer has 4 moulded panels, it has a large open candle box inside, it stands in stile feet and it has blacksmith made staple hinges, the coffer is in good condition for its age
The coffer is 55” long, 23” deep and 28” high
