William IV Leather Button Back Reclining Patent Library Chair

19th century
Description

William IV leather button back reclining patent library chair

This William IV leather reclining patent library chair, was made in the workshops of R.P.Chaplin, of Frith Street, London.

I have tried to research the cabinetmaker, but I have not had any luck in this. I have seen Filmer chairs with a similar patent, and wonder if Chaplin joined Filmer and transferred the patent to him at a later date.

This is a magnificent chair, with a very clever patent mechanism that goes back into its upright position once you move off it.

Hidden in the library chairs frieze to the front is a pull out slide, that allows you to lift the leather leg rest into place before you sit back and relax.

We have completely restored this superb chair, including totally upholstering it.

We have covered it in fine leather, that we hand dye in antique green . The back is deep buttoned with the wing head rests to each side.

The hundreds of brass studs are not only very decorative, adding to the final rich look, they are important to help secure the leather to the frame. Each stud is tapped in individually, not only time consuming but also a most skilled job.

The chair is finally finished with our unique ageing process, that gives the impression that the leather has been on the chair all its life.

This superb library chair cannot fail to amaze and amuse your family and friends. This is a very special item and an piece you should not miss.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
