Set Antique Mother of Pearl Handled Fruit Knives and Forks - Sterling Ferrules - 1897

Description

A handsome set of Mother of Pearl handled fruit / desert / cake eaters, a complete set for twelve.

The blades and tines are made from English silver plate and joined to the handles with English Sterling silver ferrules fully hallmarked for Sheffield 1897 together with the makers initials S B, possibly for Stainton Bros.

They are beautifully engraved with a Fern and floral decoration. The handles are made from carved and polished Mother of Pearl or Nacre shell with a bright patina showcasing the iridescent qualities of this highly sought-after material.

The set comes complete in it's original emerald green velvet lined Mahogany case (alas, no key).

Excellent condition measuring 11 1/2" x 9 1/4" x 2 1/4". Each knife measuring 8 1/2" in length and each fork, 6 1/8" in length.
