Description

Fabulous late 18th.c. French inlaid dower chest or coffer c.1790. Almost six feet long and very heavily constructed from thick chestnut timbers throughout. Flat (rather than panelled) four plank top, easily strong enough to use as a seat, with moulded detail and brass studs to the edge. Over an exceptional decorative front with superb ebony and boxwood inlays to the four shaped panels and continued on the stiles, mullions and rails. Original pierced steel escutcheon plate and brass studs. Shaped apron and front feet. Excellent condition with original hoop hinges and floor boards. Superb colour and patina, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
