Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1900s.

It is of course the lid that makes this a highly desirable example with a wonderful piece of Tortoiseshell inlaid with intricate silver pique work, particularly decorative.
The interior has a simple glass liner which would hold the ink.

The silver hallmark is on the side of the inkwell which is slightly rubbed, it can be identified to the Birmingham Assay office and I think around 1902, an Edwardian example. One tiny pin sized ding, mentioned purely for accuracy. Excellent condition, measuring 5 5/8' in diameter at the base.
