Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1850s.

The escutcheon to the front is also in Mother of Pearl and there is a working lock and key, always a desirable bonus.
The box was made from exotic Rosewood around 1850 and would have been an expensive box in it's day made for the English aristocracy.

The inside reveals two crystal scent bottles topped with plated silver tops. One bottle retains it's little glass stopper and each has a star cut base. One of the bottles is slightly cloudy and may come out with some washing with magic balls. The interior looks as though it was refinished in more recent years, in keeping with it's origins.
An absolute stunner, one for the discerning. Excellent condition, measuring 5 1/8" wide x 4 1/2" tall x 3" deep.
