Description

A wonderful quality mid-Victorian burr walnut LADY'S WRITING BOX in very good original condition.

Of glorious 'warm' honey colour it is bound in ornate Gothic mounts, all of which retain their original gilding. It opens to reveal a beautifully fitted satinwood-lined interior, with the original gilded velvet writing surface (a little wear to the fold); fine pair of gilt brass topped ink bottles and various compartments for stationery.

Unusually for this model, there is a bank of three secret drawers, and it is complete with its original gilded Bramah lock and key. **This is almost certainly a box by Betjemann. Measurements:15.5 x 10.75 x 5 inches (39.5 x 27 x 12.75cms)
