Antique French Rococo Clock

1900 - 1920
Description

~ French - Circa 1900 ~

~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~

A stunning original antique French gilt bronze Rococo clock. Flamboyant deeply waisted asymmetric Rococo shape decorated with acanthus, scrolls and floral swags. The dial is cream porcelain enamel on copper with separate minute ring and beautifully fretted gilt brass hands.

The French movement is of high quality and is by Malet et Cie of Paris. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is original. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a sonorous coiled gong. Click the video clip below to hear the gong and watch the clock running!

The Paris clockmaker Malet et Cie is listed in Tardy Dictionnaire Des Horologers as working in the St-Antoine Arrondissement of Paris from 1850.

Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with just occasional discolouration/tarnish and wear. The dial is also in excellent condition just some tiny nibbles to the winding holes.

Malet et Cie, clockmaker's mark on the movement backplate.

Complete with pendulum and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
