Magnificent Early Victorian silver table snuff box; of imposing size, this box is of rectangular shape with a fine hinged lid/cover. The heavy cast border is of foliate scroll pattern with flat chasing to the lid surrounding the vacant cartouche; this is continued to the sides of the box. The underside is a masterpiece in itself! The high quality engine-turning to the base is protected from being rubbed and damaged owing to the raised border that the box rests on; consequently the engine-turning is perfect and this has also protected the fine crest to the centre of this base panel. Great weight and size, by probably the best box maker of the period. This piece has everything!
