In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
The top of the desk has a raised gallery aroun the edge and an inset black leather-type writing surface. It has its original brass inset military handles and brass internal latches to lock the desk in place.
It is a nice small size but very usable with a generous kneehole of 25" (63cm) high x 16" (41cm) wide
The desk is in good condition for its age. It has been well travelled but has a good look and has been well maintained. It has a lovely rich patina and the drawers run well. There is some fading, particularly on one side and general light marks and knocks and signs of age but nothing detrimental. The lock is missing in one drawer and a more modern lock has been fitted on the bottom drawer which comes with a key. The feet have been tipped slightly to add an extra inch of height. The inside of the drawers are generally clean and tidy but there are some minor ink stains.
