Set of 6 early C19th Regency period mahogany dining chairs.
Good quality set of 6 mahogany dining chairs with solid mahogany ''dipped'' saddle-type seats . Raised on elegant turned front supports . The backs with inset turned ''rope-twist'' lumbar supports , denoting the era and date of their conception and design in celebration of the victories of Admiral Horatio Nelson and the English Fleet against the French Navy at Trafalgar and The Battle of the Nile . The figured mahogany top rails surmounted with carved gadrooned cresting detail. Reeded and moulded uprights with scroll-over tops .
Good original condition with some minor historic shrinkage cracks to the solid saddle seats.
Designed to be used as dining chairs with a loose squab cushion , but would work equally well in pairs or singly as bedroom or hall chairs.
Excellent rich colour and patina. Probably made in the East Anglia .
