Hingstons of Wilton has dated this piece to the Regency era.
This set of 4 Regency mahogany dining chairs were made circa 1820.
The chairs are fitted with the comfortable curved bar backs. The central splat consisting of 2 fine rails sandwiching the turned draught design roundels.

The chairs have the desirable feature of sabre shaped front legs.
The design of the sabre legs was taken from the curved shape of cutlass swords, which were very fashionable due to Britain’s great naval victories in this period.

Imagine when these chairs were made, Great Britain was still enjoying the great Naval and land victories of Trafalgar and the Battle of Waterloo.
No doubt the original owners would have sat on these chairs with friends, and wondered at the great tales they had read in the journals of the time.
