In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
The writing slope is excellent quality and is in good condition for its age with a beautiful patina. It has been waxed and polished, the brass work has been lightly polished and it displays very well inside and out. There are no major detrimental damages - just a small chip on one corner, another small repaired chip on the back and a piece of veneer has been replaced on the top surface (see photos). Inside, the velvet is in good condition with some minor wear and slight fraying on one tab but nothing detrimental. The glass inkwells are in good condition however they do not have lids. There is no key to the box.
