Youngs Antiques has dated this piece to the 17th Century.
The size is also quite small indicating this was probably made for a cottage. The back comprises of three finely molded panels with interlocking triangles. The arms sit upon turned baluster supports which run down into the leg. The front stretcher interlocks with two uprights which intern are joined to the support rail beneath the seat, creating a very substantial construction and all with fine central moldings. On the top rail below the seat ,there are a set of old owners initials I.H . There is a small crack in the top rail of the back and the rear stiles have blocks were the original ones once stood.
This is a superb collectors piece and quite a rarity to find.
Overall condition is excellent with a fantastic rich dark patina.
