Antique Longcase Clock

19th century
Description

A Somerset mahogany longcase clock with satinwood inlays. An arched hood pediment with two brass finials. Twist hood columns and chamfered trunk sides. Good choice flame mahogany veneers to the case. An attractive arched dial with a hunting scene and country scenes to the corners. Date and seconds indicators. An 8-day mechanism striking the hours on a bell.

Richard Maggs of Wells is recorded in A J Moores' 'The Clockmakers of Somerset' book as working in Silver Street and High Street from 1839-1861. A similair clock is illustrated in the book.
