Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this piece to the Regency era.
With bead-and-dart moulding around the frieze, it is supported on a fine turned column leading to a gadrooned collar and beautifully carved tripod legs and feet. 32ins (81cms) high.

The purpose of these unique tables was to allow crocus bulbs to remain dormant in the zinc tray under the lid. A couple of weeks before a significant party or ball, the top would be removed and the bulbs watered. In this way the bulbs came fully into bloom in time for the important event!
