Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
Each has TWO beautifully hand-painted 'riverscape' scenes, within ornate gilt borders, which depict vessels either moored; being cleaned (known as "careening") or being provisioned, on the banks of a large river, with a background of quite a significant town with quays and a bridge.
The quality of the painting in these scenes is particularly fine. 19ins (48.25cms) high. Priced for the PAIR.
The crossed sword marks underneath, similar to Meissen (though not so) indicate perhaps a minor German factory?
