Satsuma Pottery Cup and Saucer, Ryokuzan. Meiji Period.

Description

A Satsuma earthenware cup and saucer, signed Ryokuzan, Meiji Period. Both petal form items well painted with a continuous scene of figures going about their daily pursuits, between gilt scroll and gilt flower head borders. The interior of the cup painted with butterflies, whilst the centre of the saucer is painted with a spray of flowers.

Signed to the bases - Ryokuzan.

Height of cup - 4.3 cm, 1 3/4”.

Diameter of saucer - 11 cm, 4 3/8”.

Condition - Very minor typical wear to the gilt. Otherwise perfect condition. No damage. No restoration.
