M Lees and Sons has dated this Victorian Cast Iron Stick Stand to the 19th Century.
. The infant Hercules is depicted wrestling a serpent or snake , which is coiled around him and forms the hoop for the sticks or umbrellas.

The lift-out drip-tray is modelled as grassy undergrowth , whilst the infant figure has foliage behind .
This design was registered by Edwin and Theophilus Smith of Sheffield circa 1860 and is based on the Greek mythological story of the infant Hercules surviving the attempt to murder him .
In good original condition , minor chip to edge of drip-tray and the snake's head possibly an old replacement.
