Rare and unique early C20th Ruskin stone-ware pottery flambé glazed high-fired vase and stand .

The Ruskin Pottery founded by William Howson Taylor in 1898 at Smethwick in the West Midlands , produced high quality art pottery in a variety of forms and glazes .

This dramatic vase and stand in the Chinese style is an example of the high-fired flambé vases produced by Ruskin using experimental methods similar to , and in homage to , the art ,forms and skills of the early Chinese potters of the Ming and Sung Dynasties . The flambé pieces were fired at very high temperatures (between 1400 & 1600 degrees centigrade) to produce the unique to each , colouring and glaze.

During their period of manufacture , these desirable highly-prized , high-priced , unique and unrepeatable flambé glazed vases were produced in relatively small numbers under the close guidance of William Howson-Taylor himself. The secret formulae and techniques were destroyed by Howson-Taylor when he ceased to work in 1935.

The well-matched Chinese stand and bulbous vase or jar , both of characteristic Chinese form . The colours ranging through spotted reds , crimsons , lavenders and purples .

Both pieces stamped "Ruskin England " and the vase dated "1926".

A striking and extraordinary example of Ruskin flambé work .

In excellent original condition with no damage or repairs.
