Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1880s.
The lid is inlaid with a boxwood and ebony stringing.

The top of this Grand Piano opens to reveal a red velvet interior and the music starts ... I am unsure of the song played, very pretty. The box is wound from the underside and is made by the famous Swiss manufacturer, Reuge.

Even the lid to the keyboard opens to reveal a "keyboard" and carved and painted "sheet music", quite charming. The box comes with a working taselled key, sitting in the diamond shaped escutcheon. The box stands on four beautifully turned Walnut legs.
A stunning box and perfect gift in superb condition, measuring 7 1/2" x 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" tall.
