Hingstons of Wilton has dated this piece to the 1850s.

It would have been transported on wagons or by boat to the far flung trading outposts in the East.
These chests needed to be durable to face the rigors of the arduous journeys the merchant would have to take. Therefore strong iron straps, brass corners together with hasps were fitted to make them secure and fit for the job.

This example has iron carrying handles to each end, and 4 straps across the top, together with many other straps around the chests body.
The lid opens on lovely blacksmith made hinges, to reveal a large storage interior with a small lidded compartment for smaller valuable or personal items.
Imagine the stories and conversation this will make when admired by your family and friends.
