Rare Antique Black Forest Match Strike - Monkey with Glass Eyes C.1900

Description

About as charming as a piece of hand-carved black forest comes, this wonderful piece is beautifully carved in the form of a monkey with intricate detail and beautifully executed.

The monkey holds a brass matchbox holder on the back with a putt to the top and strikes being revealed on both sides, to the front the monkey holds a brass dish for the spent matches. He wears a Fez style hat with a red tuft at the end. He also retains his two original glass eyes.

Excellent condition (there is an old professional repair to one of his legs if you look closely, insignificant but shown for accuracy). Dating to c.1900 and measuring 3 1/4" wide x 6" at deepest points x 7 1/2" tall.
