Description

Two late 19th.c. brass bound camphorwood military campaign chests c.1880. Both chests are of solid camphorwood, a fragrant and pest resistant timber designed to protect the contents during passage, further strengthened with brass bindings and corners. With original flush-fitting handles to the lids, lockplates and heavy duty brass carry handles to each side. With attractive and original brass inlays to the top and front of the taller box. Both in excellent condition, cleaned and polished in our workshops. The unusually proportioned lower box carries an old painted address in the Southern French port city of Toulon. Keys supplied for both boxes.
