In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the 1800s.
The cabinet stands on traditional georgian bracket feet and the top has a moulded edge. It is a good quality piece and is solidly made with hand cut dovetail joints on all the drawers.
I'm told this particular chest was used to store a collection of eggs in and each drawer is graduated in size and was once divided internally into compartments. There are the remains of some paper labels at the back of the drawers.
It is in good original condition and displays very nicely with a lovely aged patina. It has picked up a few minor knocks and scuffs and small splits over the years and signs of age but nothing detrimental. The drawers all open and close smoothly and are very clean and tidy inside. The cabinet comes with its original working key.
