Antique Silver Elephant Hat Pin Stand/cushion With Howdah

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: The Silver Cabinet

This is a lovely collector''s piece: A solid sterling silver pin cushion, shaped as an elephant carrying a howdah.

It is hallmarked on the side for Birmingham. The date letter is partially obscured by the howdah stand, but is it possibly for 1909. The maker''s mark is for Adie & Lovekin Ltd.

There are a number of small bumps on the body of the elephant. The fabric of the cushion looks to be original, and consequently there is a small amount of discolouring from years of silver polish. The howdah is firmly attached and the elephant stands squarely. The detail to the eyes and truck is sharp.
