A Rare Silver Mounted Acorn Shaped Vinaigrette

19th century
Description

A rare Victorian silver mounted vinaigrette. This charming example has a cranberry panel cut body of acorn form. The decorated hinged silver lid opens to reveal a delightful engraved pierced grille. There is an attaching loop to the top to allow the vinaigrette to be worn from a neck chain. The lid and grille unscrew from the body to aid with refilling. A wonderful, rare and collectable piece. Condition :- Excellent, with no splits or holes and no cracks. The lid and screw thread retain some of the original gilding.

Hallmarks :- Unmarked, but tests as silver. This is not unusual for small Victorian silver items.
