Georgian Silver Newcastle Coffee Pot.

Description

Geo.III silver coffee pot; of decorated baluster form, sitting on a circular foot. The hinged lid/cover has a fine urn finial and the spout is wonderfully cast; flat gadroon borders to the lid and foot are surrounded by well executed floral decoration, and the cartouches to both sides are vacant. The whole piece is further enhanced by a silver handle; not many pots were made with silver handles originally (generally only the best quality ones,) and even less have survived the two hundred and thirty years that this one has! They were usually replaced with a fruitwood one after damage. The quality is a testament to the fine craftsmanship of these hugely regarded Newcastle silversmiths.
