Antique Longcase Clock

19th century
Description

A 'Grandmother' clock of small, slim proportions. A well made oak case of Georgian design with a moulded arched hood pediment. Turned hood columns and a shaped trunk door. A brass and silvered dial with gilded corner spandrels and fine central engraving. A twin weight driven 7-day mechanism striking the hours on a bell.

The clock mechanism is signed by the maker and dated 1874. The clockmaker used older clock brass plates to make the mechanism around. Most grandmother clocks are spring driven and from 1920's, this is a higher quality weight driven one.
