Antique Longcase Clock

19th century
Description

A Bristol mahogany longcase clock with a decorative arched hood pediment. Brass capped fluted hood columns and canted trunk sides. High quality flame mahogany veneers with banded inlays. An attractive arched painted dial with gilt corners and a sailing frigate to the arch. A seconds dial and date aperture. An 8-day duration movement striking the hours on a bell.

The Edgcumbe family of clockmakers are well recorded and illustrated in A J Moores' 'Bristol Clockmakers' book. Nathaniel worked from 1826-1841. This clock was for many years in the Bristol Club in Corn Street until it closed in 1986.
