Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French Art Deco opalescent glass, prominent during the 1920s and 1930s, is characterised by its translucent, milky appearance that reflects light with subtle blue and orange undertones. Glassmakers utilised specific chemical additives and controlled re-heating techniques to achieve this distinct iridescent quality within geometric and naturalistic forms.

Opalescent glass was created by adding compound agents such as bone ash, cryolite, or arsenic to molten glass batches, followed by precise cooling and re-heating cycles. This process induced microscopic crystallisation within the glass structure, scattering light to produce the signature milky sheen.

Authentic pieces feature crisp moulded detail, smooth fire-polished surfaces, and distinct light-refracting properties displaying warm amber or cool blue tones under direct lighting. Many original examples bear etched, cast, or hand-engraved maker marks near the base alongside precision-fitted glass stoppers.

Position the bottle on a marble bathroom counter, a glass vanity tray, or a dressing table where natural light enhances its optical qualities. Pairing translucent glass objects with dark timber or polished metal surfaces creates a balanced contrast.

Wash gently using tepid water and a mild, non-abrasive soap, drying immediately with a soft microfibre cloth. Avoid harsh chemical agents, rapid temperature shifts, or forcing stuck stoppers, as these actions can fracture vintage glass.
