Large Japanese Boxwood Monkey Group Netsuke - Mother And Four Young - Shou Sai

As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this large finely carved Meiji period ( 1868 - 1912 ) circa 1890, boxwood Netsuke Monkey group, the artist has skilfully captured the moment a female monkey is seated grooming one of her young whilst the remainder of her youngsters are playfully climbing upon her, each of the Monkeys eyes have been inlaid using glass with drilled inset pupils, the hair is finely carved to perfection , artist signed to the underside in a seal signature that translates to read '' Shou Sai'' or '' Shou '', (the artist is recorded both ways) a great subject for a Netsuke, and a great addition to your Netsuke or Japanese works of art collection.
