Charles Bisschops was born in Liège on April 25, 1894. He studied at the Academy of Brussels and received the first prize for painting and composition. He exhibited his works since 1914 at the Triennial Salons, Spring Shows and various events of Belgian art abroad. After having spent two years in the trenches as a volunteer, Charles Bisschops decides to leave for the south because his health, strongly shaken by the war. It was during his long stays in Italy, Algeria, Brittany, Spain and Provence that he renewed the interpretative technique.
