An antique Swiss silver pocket watch, 1918.

The watch has a 15-jewel stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch itself measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the two case backs for London 1918 and an importer's mark for Arthur Rendell.

In 1907, an act came into force which meant that all imported watches had to be assayed in a UK assay office and marked with British import hallmarks. For this, a sponsor's mark was required. In this particular case, Arthur Rendell was an employee, and probably in charge, of the department that handled imported watches at a company called Pringles, the UK's largest wholesalers of jewellery, silverware, clocks and watches, so it was deemed relevant to use his initials.

The case has the odd mark and a couple of patches of unevenness to the back.

The acrylic lens is in good condition.

The dial has a few faint hairline cracks although they are faint, and a white scratch by number 9.

The watch comes with a silver watch chain which measures 29cm long including the T-bar and the clasp (the T-bar is a nickel replacement).

The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
