A 1930s Kays Masterpiece silver pocket watch.

William Kay was originally employed as a jeweller's assistant and worked for Skarratt & Co of Worcester. In 1890, he started his own company, Kays of Worcester and his early catalogue shows that he supplied jewellery, clocks, watches and timepieces to Worcester and its vicinity.

Kays subsequently bought Skarratt & Co in 1896 and acquired the contract to supply Great Western Railway with clocks and watches.

This particular watch has a Revue Swiss stem-winding movement which is working nicely.

The watch itself measures 50.3mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the case back for Birmingham 1931 with a case maker’s mark for the Eclipce Watch Case Co. The case has light surface marks from use and some mild bruising to the back and edges but overall it is in nice condition for a 1920s piece.

The watch glass is in nice condition.

The white enamel dial is signed Kay's Masterpiece. The dial has a very faint hairline crack between 10 & 11 o'clock although only noticeable through a jewellers loupe but otherwise it is in nice condition.

The watch has its original blued steel hands.

The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
