A Rare Victorian Silver Vesta & Sovereign Case

Description

A delightful and interesting item of Victorian silver. This rare piece is a vesta with a combined sovereign holder. This lovely example has stylish plain body with engraved stylized initials to the reverse. The front is charmingly engraved with the words, 'Matches' and 'Gold' to the corresponding compartments. The vesta is lid hinged and fully gilded to the interior. The sovereign holder has a push button sprung lid and retains some original gilding to the inside. To the top is an attaching loop for a fob chain. A fine collector's item.

Condition :- Very good, with a good hinge to both compartments. There is one small blemish to the silver under the attaching loop to the reverse, commensurate with age and use.

Hallmarks :- Full set to body and part set to lid interior.

Maker :- Thomas Haynes.

Date :- Birmingham 1896.

Length :- 7 cms.

Width :- 3.2 cms.
