In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
The bottom part of the interior has a lovely brass and mother of pearl inlaid design and this folds down to provide a writing surface which is covered with maroon coloured velvet. Both sections of the writing surface lift up to provide small storage compartments.
It is in excellent condition for its age with a beautiful patina. It has been lightly cleaned and polished and displays beautifully inside and out. There is no major damage to the wood exterior and the mother of pearl inlay is all present with no signs of lifting. There are some minor signs of age and use but nothing detrimental and the box also comes with a working key. Inside is also clean and tidy and the velvet surface is in good order.
