In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
The box also comes with one of its original glass inkwells. Below the writing surface are two small secret drawers, accessed by pulling gently on the dividing piece of wood next to the inkwell.
The writing slope is excellent quality and is in good condition for its age with a beautiful patina. The brass work has been lightly polished and it displays very well inside and out. There is a small chip near the back of the box (see photo) but no other major damages to the wood exterior. The leather is in good condition with some wear along the crease and its worth mentioning that the glass inkwell is cracked. I do not have a key for the box.
