In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the 1890s.
In the side door is a series of pins with ribbon attached to hold papers and documents etc. There is a nice large sliding drawer at the bottom of the box, held in place with a brass rod, with an inset military style brass handle. The cabinet comes with its original working key, although the lock is not 100% secure.
It is been very well made and although it has been used it has obviously been well looked after over the years. It is in good original condition and has a lovely aged patina. The lid to one inkwell is missing and there are some small inkstains on the pen rest and there are signs of age and use but no major damages and overall it displays very nicely.
