Antique Sterling Silver and Tortoise Shell Bowl - Silver Pique - 1894

Description

A pretty solid or sterling silver dish or trinket tray, adorned with a glossy base made from antique tortoiseshell with beautiful markings and colours ranging from golden champagne to rich chocolate brown.

The shell has a wonderful glossy patina and is beautifully decorated with delicate and intricate silver pique inlay.

The silver has a good clear hallmark for Chester 1894, so a good Victorian example, together with the makers mark JD/WD for James Deakin & Sons - John and William Deakin. Excellent condition measuring 4 3/4" in diameter and standing 1 1/4" deep.
