Stunning Antique Large Hand Painted Enamel Egg Box

Description

A quite wonderful egg shaped box dating to around 1840 or perhaps even earlier, probably French or Russian, I think French but am not 100% sure.

The decoration is outstanding and vivid with hand painted floral garlands, ribbon, box and tassel garlands and all over gold stars.

I couldn't believe what I found when I first opened the box, an immaculate original lining in pleated silk, just fabulous.

There are a couple of faults to report, but in mind absolutely acceptable; there is some cracking to the enamel above the hinge and some striations to the back, otherwise wonderful condition and without loss of the enamel.

A superb find to add to your collection measuring 4" in length and 6" including the chain and finger ring. A gem!
