An early 19th century Kermanshah carpet with huge cypress trees flanked by birds woven on a spectacular yellow ground.
The carpet belonged to Tory politician, Rab Butler* and graced the floor of his office at Spencer’s.
There is some corrosion to the brows, particularly in the borders and there is high quality re-weave to one corner.
It has, however been sympathetically restored and is now clean and floor ready.
* Butler held several junior posts for Neville Chamberlain and later, was made minister for education under Winston Churchill then, in 1957, he became Chancellor, then deputy Prime Minister.
