Merchant House Antiques has dated this piece to the 1800s.
Well maintained by former owners, it is shown here in best showroom condition, having been lightly refurbished and wax polished. The drawers are oak lined and are running smoothly, with brass swan neck handles and a working key. Between the two sections is a very useful brushing slide which serves as a platform for linen or as a writing surface.
The quality of this chest on chest is excellent with intricate detail to the cornice and fretted sides. There's a well pronounced serpentine shape to this chest and while of compact size, there is an enormous amount of useful storage space. The colour is a delightful rich and mellow mahogany with a good antique patina. A superb chest.
