Scrap Work Folding Screen C.1880.

19th century
Description

Superb late 19th.c. scrap work folding screen or room divider c.1880. Three 25" wide pointed panels with ebonised wooden frames and a gilded beading. Densely worked decoration to both sides made of coloured illustrations on paper carefully cut and glued into place. The illustrations used make an interesting reflection of Victorian popular tastes with lots of images of childhood and lady’s fashions as well as several patriotic military scenes including the death of Nelson and one of a sailor having his arm tattooed with the Union Jack. Some minor wear, generally very condition.
