Hingstons of Wilton has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
This Antique Colonial merchants chest was first crafted in the first half of the 19thc. using an Indian hardwood, it is very much of the grain and tone of European walnut.

These chests make superb coffee tables as well as conversation pieces. Your imagination gets sparked, as you envisage the stories this could tell of its perilous travels either by cart or sailing ship.

The lid opens to reveal a full open storage space, that would fit so much in.
The exterior has the blacksmith made iron corners and long strap hinges. There is a brass lock plate with iron hasps with delicate decoration.

This lovely trunk is finished all the way around and so can be used away from the wall. These are especially good as interesting coffee tables.
