Description

MOREAU: a large, finely modelled and well-cast French BRONZE SCULPTURE of a Classical youth who wears a tunic tied at his waist and sandals, whilst walking and carrying an olive branch in his right hand. Signed to the integral bronze base. 14.5ins (37cms) high.

***Hippolye Francois MOREAU was born in Dijon in 1832, one of three sons who all followed their father into the sculpture "business". He exhibited his first work in 1859 and his work was frequently seen at the Salon des Artistes in Paris from 1889. He died in 1927.
