George II Silver Baluster Cream Jug David Hennell I Georgian

18th century
Description

Pretty George II silver baluster cream jug set on 3 cast cabriole legs with hoofed feet. Shaped rim and scroll handle with cast feather thumb rest. The body later embossed with flowers and foliage with bright cut engraved detail, used to create a central vacant reserve to the front for engraving with initials. Hallmarked underneath for London 1759 and maker David Hennell I. Initials M. T. M. also engraved underneath.

It measures 11cm (4 1/4") high, 9cm (3 1/2") handle to rim and 6cm (1/2") across the body. It weighs 95g/3.0ozt. Condition is very good; there is a slight distortion to one leg and a very small and shallow tear at the back of it but the silver is very thick gauge and presents no practical or aesthetic concerns. Light surface wear, very good for age and the hallmarks are nice and clear, just a slight rubbing at the edge in a few places.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
